Vent Silencer

ISTIQ Vent Silencers are designed to reduce high-pressure gas or steam vent noise during discharge, blowdown, pressure relief, purging, depressurizing, and process venting operations. Vent noise can be extremely loud because gas is released at high velocity and often under high pressure, creating intense broadband noise that can affect workers, nearby facilities, and surrounding communities.

A vent silencer is not the same as a normal duct silencer or exhaust silencer. It must be designed to handle the specific venting condition, including gas type, pressure, temperature, mass flow rate, discharge duration, allowable pressure drop, outlet velocity, and required noise reduction. If the silencer is poorly selected, it may fail to control the noise effectively or create an unsafe restriction in the vent system.

The construction may include a heavy-duty pressure section, diffuser, expansion chamber, acoustic absorption section, perforated internals, drain points, lifting lugs, support brackets, weather protection, and suitable high-temperature or corrosion-resistant materials.

For pressure relief and blowdown applications, the silencer must reduce noise while allowing the required flow to discharge safely. Coordination with the piping layout, discharge direction, support structure, thermal expansion, drainage, and maintenance access is important to ensure reliable operation.
